Digestive balance tea is easy to find with the help of Ayurveda.
But support from a new friend and using ginger root tea is even better! Years ago, as a new Yoga teacher myself (yeesh, that is so long ago), I was busy with three young children and hoping to build a small business, and my husband at that time, worked abroad for about 8 months of the year…so it was busy!
Maggie Crosse, a great and quite famous Yoga teacher in Clonmel and Limerick, well, we met when I was travelling the country spreading the word about Yoga for children through the YogaKids programme. But anyway, I went up to meet her and her husband Paul at their home, and I wasn’t long arrived before I got a bit of a faint. So she quickly gave me some grated ginger root tea. And I have never looked back since. What a gift, it was adoration at first sip and chew! Thank you dear Maggie, you were, and are an angel and she helped me find this digestive balance tea.
Since then I have been sharing the benefits of digestive balance ginger root tea everywhere I go. Not only because of Maggie’s help, and she did far more than tea and a bed that night! But one year later I began my biggest adventure, met the deep love of my life, my journey into Ayurveda. And Ayurveda sees ginger root tea as the king of all drinks to help with digestion and toxin removal, I have been bowing and praising it ever since.
So, ginger root tea is not for every dosha, but for a Vata digestion yes, for a Kapha digestion yes, for balanced Pitta digestion NO, test it first! Start small is good, use a very small bit of ginger first and then add more! For a Vata Pitta type, maybe, depends on if it’s a more Vata digestion or Pitta digestion, for a Kapha Pitta type, maybe, depend on which run the digestion more, and a Vata Kapha type yes, no bother.
See Pitta already has hot and pungent in its digestion, it doesn’t need any more. You can of course try it, Ayurveda is all for experimentation, because it is only through testing something that we can really tell what will not work and what will work.
If you start to feel all warm inside, and then suddenly feel too hot and a bit burny…then you have either a Pitta type digestion which means it’s a part of your constitution, or you have an imbalance that is Pitta high. Either way, if you suddenly get hot in your tummy, go straight to a health shop and get some Aloe Vera juice/organic and take a 5ml spoon of that with water and this will cool the fire straight away.
Ginger root tea is easy to make and quickly helps in digestive balance, but sometimes I get lazy and so I am still looking for the best ginger root tea in a tea bag. 🍯If you an recommend any, let me know!! I seem to still be in lazy mode, but that’s okay too, taking a little break from things can help us appreciate them even more. Ayurveda appreciates our human nature, in fact it operates on witnessing all our behaviours through doshas and koshas.
Anyhow so get your ginger root, organic is best, as ever. But hard to get it here. You can scrape or cut off the brown skin. Then set to grating or chopping about a quarter of a thumb length or for me I would use half a thumb or more in my flask. I often add cumin seeds in the autumn, a half a stick of cinnamon in the winter and fennel seeds in the spring. The you can cover with boiled or simmering water in a pan, but I generally fill my flask up for the morning, let it brew for at least 15 minutes…and boom, Bob’s your uncle and you have enough ginger root tea to share or have all to yourself before your meals!
If you are taking herbs or digestive spices for your digestive power or your Agni, then ginger root tea is the best drink to add to them for Vata and Kapha doshas.
I never get tired of ginger root tea. If you have not tried it, then autumn is the season to get with it! If it’s too spicey, don’t give up yet, just use less ginger root and try again. Ginger root has the ability to remove the toxins our to our gut and out of our body. Blended with herbs it’s even more certain to help with digestive problems.
